Shelter Update...
Currently working on Phase 3 of the shelter, which is the interior framing and electrical. There is some plumbing work left left to complete from Phase 2 .
Thank you to Spruce Products, LP, Ladel Construction (Lance Delaurier), Joey Slack of JK Painting, Home Hardware, Pleasant Valley Cabinets, Valley Doors for the donations of materials. |
Progress is good, especially when people come together to make things work out in the nick of time. Thankfully we were blessed with an extended fall and SVAPL was able to make some more headway at the new shelter before winter arrived. A few things checked off the list include the exterior insulation for the planned heated slab, exterior trenching and installation of the electrical service and water/septic lines. With these essential components complete, SVAPL can continue with construction and fundraising efforts, and move closer to having an operating shelter.
Thank you to those who took time from their busy schedules these last few weeks to get the shelter project to the next phase. Thanks to Spruce Products Limited (SPL), Cooks Bros., Rose Custom Building, Dee’s Electric, Valley Plumbing, Taylor Electric and Manitoba Hydro. Visit our website to see our Raise the Rescue Sponsors and learn more about our sponsorship program. www.svapl.ca

Our New Shelter
Well now isn't THIS exciting? We are officially just about done PHASE 1 for the new shelter! The building is up but we are far from being open for business.
We will soon be sending out tender requests for the inside of the building to be completed. This, we expect, to be the most expensive part. Cement floors, walls for each room, plumbing and electrical. This will add up quickly! With COVID, the restrictions have hindered us even further. We already do not qualify for most government grants, but we now are unable to do the majority of our fundraising with BBQ's, banquets, garage sales or selling tickets at our local grocery stores. What we need to complete Phase 2 will be replies to our tenders once posted. We need someone that will be able to oversee Phase 2...such as a project manager. We need FUNDS! We will share our Raise the Rescue Sponsorship Program below and if you have any questions, feel free to PM us! ANY donation big or small will help us reach our goal! Originally, we hoped to be open by 2020 but clearly that hasn't happened. Our goal now is to be open before snowfall this year...2021! Help us help all those dogs and cats without voices or a safe place to go! We absolutely cannot do this without our community and this shelter is for our community! Welcome to the ending of Phase 1 and the beginning of Phase 2. To those who have donated and sponsored us to get this far, we THANK YOU! Your help is making this rescue dream come true! We are so excited to see the progress so far and to continue watching the progress going forward! |
Jim and Marie Hogg FoundationSeveral years ago Jim and Marie Hogg, donated $20,000 to SVAPL, through the SVCF. This money is a never-ending source of income for SVAPL. The original money is never touched; we receive the interest on that money each year.
Marie- Born Anna Marie Ingvartsen, in Jutland, Denmark in 1922. She and her family immigrated to Canada in 1927. They settled in Marshall, Sask., and after four years moved to Swan River, where she received her education. At the age of 20 she moved to Winnipeg, where she worked at various jobs, and met and married Jim Hogg. (She just passed away this spring 2015) Jim- Born in Pipestone, Mb. in 1925, the youngest of 6 children. He, together with his widowed mother and siblings moved to Swan River in the early 1930's, which is where he received his education. He joined the RCAF and spent a year in England. Most of his working life he was employed by Swan River-The Pas, and by CNR. (He passed away a few years ago now.) Jim and Marie were real animal lovers, and believed very strongly in animal protection agencies, making numerous and substantial donations, both in Winnipeg and in Swan River. |

ESRSS raised the money through their hotdog and popcorn sale, and donated it to SVAPL! Way to go kids, our furry friends are ever so grateful!
|
SVAPL would like to send out a HUGE thank you to The Parent Pack!! This wonderful group put on a big garage sale at the Elbert Chartrand Friendship centre today and donated the proceeds, over $1200, to SVAPL and all of our furry friends!! Thanks to everyone who donated goods to sell, or came out to shop today. Also thanks to everyone for helping out and working so hard to make this happen! To all of you that bought 50/50 tickets and SVAPL merchandise, or donated money or bought memberships, thank you so much! We are so appreciative!

Swan Valley Credit Union has a "Jean's Day", where staff pay money to wear their jeans to work. At the end of the year, they donate the funds collected to a lucky local organization! This year, they chose SVAPL!! Thanks so much to the staff at the Credit Union, our furry friends appreciate it! Pictured below is SVCU staff member Melissa presenting the cheque for $2,000 to Dave Theunissen, past Treasurer for SVAPL!
|
These two, along with the rest of us at SVAPL, would like to thank Dave Theunissen for years of volunteer work as the Treasurer of SVAPL. He has retired this year, but will hopefully continue to come to meetings and make us laugh with his stories! Dave has done a bang up job and has helped us in so many ways. Thank you Dave! |
Stephanie Coleman and friends raised $700 that they donated to SVAPL for a 5 KM run they completed! Our furry friends are ever so grateful! Thank you!
A colorful THANK YOU to the Visual Arts class at SVRSS as well as the business class that took on the project to promote this gorgeous coloring book! For $10 you can purchase one of these coloring books that highlights the Swan River Valley (available at the Tourist Info building or the high school). We were presented with a cheque of the proceeds of this awesome project of $150!!! Thank you, Charlene Rooks for all you've done with your students for us! Our furbabies thank you all!
|
There isn't a big enough THANK YOU that can be said to Gifford and Lorraine Grant for building a new DUAL "Summer Camp". This gorgeous building will house many of our cats throughout the warmer weather but will also be able to be used for outdoor cats in the winter! It is fully covered and will house a number of heated, insulated cat boxes to keep toasty warm during the chilly nights. Our old "summer camp" was originally a bird enclosure that we started using for the cats and is barely holding together anymore. It will be torn down as soon as we can get some help! This new camp has TWO enclosures therefore allowing more of our feline friends to enjoy fresh air in a large space! THANK YOU GIFFORD AND LORRAINE GRANT! The shelter is filled with the sound of happy, purring kitties!
|
A huge thank you goes out to Jason and Robyn Eisner of Liquidation Direct in Swan River, for a very generous donation of $1000.00 in memory of Robbie Anderson!! Your thoughtfulness is greatly appreciated and will help us out a lot. From all of your furry friends at SVAPL, thank you so much! Pictured below is Audrey Sercombe, accepting a cheque from Jason and Robyn Eisner.

These guys decided to put up a Snack Shack, and wanted to donate half the money they made to SVAPL! Storm, Rayna, Noah, Rile and Maddix gave us $52, which will help us out, so thank you from the animals! The kids are pictured here with their Snack Shack, and with Audrey at the shelter.
GO FUND ME DONATIONS
SVAPL has decided to reach out even further for support, and has started a Go Fund me campaign. Every little bit helps us to help the animals and find them their homes. There are a lot of costs associated with running the shelter, and a lot of work goes into keeping the shelter in good working conditions so the animals are comfortable and taken care of until they are adopted.
For more information or to donate please click on the link below. Thank you for all of your support.

A huge shout out to Jennifer Poole of Jennifer Paige photography, and to all the First Responder's (RCMP, Paramedics, Fire Fighters) who came out for the photo shoots for our 2017 calendar!! They are on order, and hopefully will be in on time to sell at our annual Banquet, coming up on September 24th. Watch for them, this is the calendar you will want on your wall! The pictures are fabulous!
