About Us
Mission Statement
Our unofficial mission is to put ourselves right out of business: If we can convince people to spay and neuter their pets, there would not be this over-population of animals who are unwanted. Only 1/3 of dogs and cats that are born end up in a loving home...the rest are dumped, they starve, they are prey for wild animals, etc.
Our Official Mission Statement
Swan Valley Animal Protection League endeavours to protect, shelter and promote the adoption of homeless animals; to provide education about responsible pet ownership, and to reduce pet over-population through the promotion of spay/neutering, to the best of our abilities.
Area Served
Swan Valley Animal Protection League is a volunteered based organization dedicated to rescuing and rehoming stray and abandoned animals. Our practices serve a large area of the community with animals rescued from areas within a 60 - 70 mile radius of the town of Swan River. There are no other shelters serving our area and we operate solely on donations and fundraising. Our average annual intake is approximately 80 dogs and 80 cats, with an average occupancy of 18 dogs and 18 cats at a time. We are currently in the process of raising funds to build a facility at a new shelter location near Swan River. Until then, all SVAPL animals are cared for by our foster families.
